Napoleon in his memoirs indicated that two Mamluk solders couldsuccessfully hold three French cavalrymen. Riding skill, betterweapons and superior horses allowed them to take the upperhand in duels. However, victory in skirmishes of large massesof cavalry would be achieved by the army which possessesthe discipline, the ability to concerted actions, and the officerscapable of using these benefits.
