Description
The Tiger II was the common name for the German 70-tonne World War II heavy tank, Tank VI, which was called the “King Tiger” by the American troops who saw it on the Normandy front.
In 1944, Krupp submitted a proposal to retrofit the King Tiger with a 105 mm kwk46 L/68 gun as a firepower enhancement.
However, the project was cancelled after only line drawings were drawn when it was pointed out that mounting a 105 mm gun in the King Tiger’s turret would require enlarging the turret for loading operations and modifications to the turret ring and undercarriage were necessary.
