Description
One of the most widely-used tanks in the West during the Cold War, appearing in a wide range of variations. The Centurion Mk.5/2 is equipped with an L7 105mm main gun, replacing the previous 20pdr. (83.4mm bore diameter) gun, increasing the Centurion’s armor-piercing capability by nearly 25%.
AFV Club follows up on its magnificent Mk. 5/1 kit with the Mk. 5/2 variant. As with the previous kit, many of the grab handles and guard plates are molded as separate parts, and a nice fret of photo-etched parts are included. The suspension bogies are workable via brass springs, and the road wheels have rubber-like rims made of soft plastic. The nicely-formed 105mm gun barrel is lathed aluminum with rifling detail and a two-piece plastic bore evacuator. Periscopes, including those of the commander’s cupola, are molded in transparent plastic. A length of nylon twine is included for the tow cable. The tracks are the cementable rubber belt type, and are nicely detailed, but these can be replaced with the easily-assembled injection plastic individual track link set available separately (link below). The only thing really missing form this kit is a mantlet cover, which is seen on nearly all Centurions
