Description
Following WWII, the RF&P got swept up in the streamliner craze along with the rest of the nation’s railroads. In addition to helping to haul trains for the Seaboard and others, they wanted one of their own. It wasn’t until 1947 that AC&F finally caught up to the order and delivered the five-car lightweight “Old Dominion.” The streamlined consist included four coaches and a cafe lounge car. Finished in a special paint scheme of gray, blue and gold, the train made a daily round trip between Richmond and Washington DC. Despite the fanfare however, the train lost money from day one and only remained in service for a few short months. Nevertheless, we found the streamliner too pretty to pass up! Rewrite a bit of history on your layout and add a matching baggage and observation to complete the train. It would look great behind the E8s shown here, or behind our recently delivered F19 Pacific!
